A visual examination by Cheslava Kent M.A.,
Conservator, Melbourne Art Conservation Studio undertaken in early 1990 explains:
‘The Lambert panel was carefully examined in daylight under strong magnification. It was also scanned with U.V light. The restoration was mainly located in the top part of the painting, the area defining the sky. The rest of the painting, with the exception of a few minor scratches, was unscathed. The signature and its surrounding area is in its original condition.
The high professional standard of the restoration has ensured that the artistic merit of the composition has not been devalued.’
